Our History

 The Coconoil® brand was founded in 2005 as a direct result of our desire to help in the immediate aftermath of the Asian Tsunami.

Coconoil® was founded by Garry Stiven following his visit to Sri Lanka in the immediate aftermath of the 2004 tsunami to help with emergency relief work. Garry, a former field director for Save The Children, was shocked by the vast devastation and quickly realised that it would take many years for the worst hit areas to recover. After gathering his thoughts and reading a well placed magazine article on the health benefits of coconut oil, Garry, with his past experience, found a way to help the Sri Lanka people for the long term and found an export market for the country to bring in new revenue and boost the economy. During this time the virgin coconut oil had a limited market for cosmetic production in Italy and was not available in the UK. Having found a supplier, Garry returned to the UK and became the first UK importer of Sri Lanka virgin coconut oil, under the brand name Coconoil® Certified Virgin Coconut Oil is distributed in the EU by Bamber Watson Associates Limited.

Our Mission

This ethically motivated beginning has, and always will be, the bedrock of the Coconoil® culture. In order to maintain the highest ethical standards we pick, press and pack Coconoil® in its country of origin. By following this practice we endeavour to create the most socially responsible business conditions possible for all concerned in the Coconoil® supply chain from growers to final consumers.



The Oil

Virgin Coconut Oil is produced using the fresh, mature kernel of only the highest quality coconuts. Our oil has not undergone any chemical refining, bleaching or deodorising or any other process which would lead to the alteration of the nature of the oil. Virgin coconut oil is the purest form of coconut oil and has colourless appearance with a mild fresh coconut aroma.Virgin coconut oil is best stored in a cool dry place and is usually in a solid form but becomes liquid between 18°C and 24°C. The properties of the oil are not affected during the transition from solid to liquid to solid. As an edible oil, Coconoil® Virgin Coconut Oil is ideal for cooking because of its high heat resistance. Virgin coconut oil is a Medium Chain Triglyceride (MCT) oil, with many unique health properties which distinguish virgin coconut oil from the saturated fats found in meat and vegetable oils. MCT’s promote good health and have many amazing health properties.
